  1. I’ve had dozens of my photos ripped off on e-Bay; I’ve even had people say that typewriters were from my collection, which most certainly they were not. I contact the seller on every one I find, although that doesn’t happen quite as much as it used to. It’s very frustrating… and of course, if there are no other photos of a machine, likely a fraud. If and when the seller doesn’t take the photo(s) off, it’s time for a report.

I did have one once who admitted that she had no digital camera, and so used one of my photos because it was an identical typewriter. That was almost all right. Almost. I didn’t report her but she did relist the item with a photo of her own; I told her that a digital camera would really be a great investment for eBay and she agreed. Sometimes they end well enough!

      1. Maybe none of the other pictures are his own. I’ve never sold anything on eBay, but does eBay allow you to link to photos on other sites? That might explain the broken links if those sites block it.

  2. So they went to the trouble of photoshopping the text on the brochure, but couldn’t be bothered to take a picture of their own typewriter? Either it’s perverse laziness, or it’s the lack of a digital camera — but without that basic piece of equipment, one has no business selling on eBay.

It’s happened to me too, and many others.

    1. Apparently they put heaps of their own pictures into the description listing, but none of them are showing up.
Unfortunately for us, eBay sellers are turning into pirates!

  3. The seller thought that by altering your photo, they were creating something new. which might have legitimised the misappropriation, but not for selling something on ebay for crying out loud. But I’m sort of jealous now because nobody ever stole one of my typewriter photos.
